Blogging for Shopify – How to Blog for SEO

One of the biggest mistakes we see on Shopify sites is that they lack the content. They need to rank for their core keywords.

Shopify sites often put a primary focus on product and category pages. With the goal of driving user transactions. Let’s say we have a Shopify store that we want to rank for the term cloth nappies. We might want to rank our category page for the term cloth nappies, because this contains a collection of all of our cloth diaper products.

This makes sense because we assume that users searching this term are looking to make a purchase. However, when looking at the results in Google, we can see that the intent of the term is just a bit different.

Instead, we can see the top ranking results, are a mix of category pages and blog posts, for instance, many of these results include informational articles. Such as the sixth-best cloth nappies of 2020, this is because Google has determined that are both transactional and informational intents for this keyword.

This means that the opportunity to rank for this keyword, doesn’t only exist within your category page. There is also an opportunity for a blog post to rank for this keyword to rank for this keyword. You might want to consider creating an informational blog article that contains guide content around cloth nappies once you’ve found keyword opportunities not to blog articles like this cloth.

Nappies example will then need to go out and create that content. However, you might not be sure which type of content should exist on these pages. Here are some ways to determine which types of content to include in your informational articles.

1. No common topics of high ranking posts, the most important element of strategizing, your blog content, should be reviewing common topics of high ranking posts, start by performing a search for the query that you want to rank to browse the top 10 results and note the common Topics that these pages cover, for instance, if you perform a search for cloth, nappies and notice that six of the top ranking articles talk about the most common cloth diaper products.

Then your article should include this to repeat this process to find as many common topics as possible. This will help ensure that your blog matches, the user intent of this keyword.

2. Review related searches at the bottom of the search results. Google provides a list of related searches. These are queries that users who search the original keyword might also be interested in. This can provide a great list of potential topics to include in your blog posts, for instance, in a query for cloth nappies.

We can see that one of the related searches is how to clean cloth nappies. Since users are interested in this topic, you might want to consider creating a section for this in our informational cloth, nappies guide. This will help make our article more comprehensive,

3. Utilize hub content. The concept of hub content is becoming more and more popular, simply put hub. Content is a page that contains links to internal resources and other content.

The site has around that topic. Recently, we’ve, seen a lot of examples of hub content, ranking well in the search engines and creating a blog posts. Try to see if you can make your article a Content hub, look for other related blog posts or helpful resources that you can internally link to on your Shopify site.

This can help improve user engagement with your blog post as well as show. Google. Your resource is a Content hub to summarize, you can find of ranking opportunities and create blog content for them by following these three steps: first, no common topics of high ranking posts; second, review, related searches and third utilize hub content.
