FC Basel loses top sponsor
For 15 years, the Basler Kantonalbank has supported FC Basel with a high six-figure sum. That’s over now.
On the homepage of the Basler Kantonalbank, red and blue will still be worn with pride until Wednesday afternoon: “We are just as loyal as the fans: The Basler Kantonalbank has been a premium partner for FC Basel for years,” writes the financial institution.
From the summer, however, the loyalty will be over, the BKB will not extend the expiring contract. After more than 15 years, the collaboration with the 20-time Swiss champion ends. The reason given is a new strategy. In the future, they want to contribute more to reducing climate crises and consistently focus on sustainability.
FCB regrets the decision
The BKB-Aus has an impact on the FCB jersey, so far the lettering was emblazoned on the back of the FCB players. It is not yet known which sponsor will replace the bank. Nevertheless, it is clear that the withdrawal will entail considerable financial losses. According to Blick information, BKB supported FC Basel with around CHF 700,000 per year.
Dani Büchi, the delegate of the FCB board of directors, says: “Of course we very much regret the decision of the BKB, especially in the current situation, the loss of a long-standing top partner weighs heavily. Of course, we respect the decision and would like to thank the BKB for the great support that has lasted for more than 15 years. Together, the two Basel institutions BKB and FCB have implemented many exciting projects, especially in the youth field.
